Half Moon

Sometimes I hesitate to write about all the cool things Kayla is doing, saying and learning for fear that I may be “bragging.”    However, part of the reason I update the site so much is for ourselves–so that I can remember these wonderful days of motherhood and so that the kids can read a journal of their early years.  I suppose if anyone thinks I’m bragging, that person can just stop checking our site!  :)

Several days ago Kayla and I were drawing together with her Doodle Pro.  I drew a picture of the moon and asked if the moon was always a circle.  She said yes, and then I explained that the moon is always a circle (or a sphere to be precise), but that we see different phases of the moon.  I drew a picture of a full moon, a half moon and a crescent moon.  Last night we had a good view of the moon from the living room window.  Kayla looked at it, and you could tell the wheels were turning.  Then she said “half moon.”  I was pretty impressed!  Today we’ve been eating our English muffins in the shape of half moons and crescent moons.  Kayla always wants to have a bite of my moons.  :)

We’ve also been working with letters a lot (nothing too structured, just here and there as we have time).  She amazed me the other day with how much she could put together.  I asked her what letter “dog” started with.  I said “dog–da, da.  What letter makes the sound da?”  Right away she said “Daddy.”  I said, “that’s right, and what letter does Daddy start with?”  “D!”  Good job, Kayla!  Then we went through a bunch of other D words.  She thought it was pretty cool.

Kayla continues to advance in her conversation abilities, too.  She’s starting to ask more questions, which I find really cute.  Yesterday afternoon we were playing outside and swinging on the hammock.  I said, “Kayla, we should get a blanket.”  And she said, “you kind of cold?”

Finally, Kayla impresses me with her math abilities, too.  I made three English muffin pizzas today (actually 1 1/2 English muffins).  I brought them to the table on one plate and Kayla said, “three pizzas.  Two for Mommy; one for Kayla.”

Unfortunately it seems like Kayla has a little bit of a cold again.  She just got over one!  Anyone have any good tips for how to keep a toddler healthy?  I give her vitamins, feed her health food and run a vaporizer in her room.  I could quarantine her all winter long, but that wouldn’t be any fun.  I’m sure she catches colds from her many friends.

Your website is a wonderful way for grandparents to enjoy your children from 60 miles away. :) I really look forward to new entries. It always brings me pleasure seeing pictures of the family and learning new developments from Kayla and Madeline.

    Jenni,
I think you and Aaron should be very proud of how wonderful of a job you are doing with your kids. All the neat things Kayla is doing is a reflection of how much you both invest in her. I’m proud of you both and I LUV hearing about the new skills she is learning and doing. And I agree that the girls will love reading this when they are older too :) Keep up the great parenting!!
