Sisters

More to come soon, but for now I’ll leave you with this picture of two best friends.

Happy Birthday, Kayla!

Kayla is four today!  We had a birthday party for her at Island Park last night, and today the girls and Aaron ran in the Highland Festival Races.  Madeline ran 50 meters, and Kayla ran 100.  Aaron’s race was a 5K.  Everyone had fun and did a great job.  Here are a few pictures:

After the Fun Run

On a much sadder note, Aaron and I drove to Lansing after the party last night to say good-bye to my grandma.  She has been in the hospital since the end of April with numerous health problems.  We thought she was going to make it, until yesterday when the medical staff discovered she developed pneumonia.  My dad called yesterday saying they expected her to pass away that afternoon.  Thankfully she was still alive when we arrived at the hospital after 10 p.m. last night.  We stayed for a couple hours and arrived home around 1:30 a.m.  She was still hanging on today but will probably pass away soon.  I appreciate your prayers.  This has been a hard season.

Dora

Here are the girls, and their friend, Nolan, with Dora.  Madeline still tells everyone that she saw Dora at the library.

A Dream Come True

Kayla and Madeline’s dream came true at the library’s storytime on Thursday:  Dora came to visit!  The girls were so excited.  Dora participated in storytime, and then the girls gave her hugs and had their pictures taken with her.  I didn’t have my camera, but another mom did, and I should be getting the pictures soon.

Last weekend, the girls and I went to the Maple Syrup Festival in Shepherd with my friend Hatha and her two girls.  Here are some pictures of the girls riding the ponies:

How Tall We Are

A friend recently recommended a book to me.  As soon as I heard about it, I knew it was something the girls would love.  It’s called “Games with Books” by Peggy Kaye.  Tonight we tried our first game, and as I suspected, the girls were pretty excited.  The game coordinated with the book “The Carrot Seed” and involved measuring how tall you are using carrots!  So, in case you are curious, here’s how tall we are:

Aaron:  9 1/4 carrots

Jen:  8 carrots

Kayla:  4 3/4 carrots

Madeline:  4 carrots

Savannah:  2 3/4 carrots

Yogi:  3 1/2 carrots (but as Aaron said, it depends on how you stretch her)

Stay tuned for the next post, “How Much We Weigh.”  Just kidding.  :)

The Cousins

You have to admit that this is one of the cutest pictures you’ve ever seen.

Here’s Ender, Savannah and Grey:

A Day Late

On Thursday, March 20, the first day of spring, Kayla, Madeline and I had our annual spring celebration.

The morning started with bunny cinnamon rolls. Then we had an Easter egg hunt, and finally the girls opened Easter baskets. We intended to dye Easter eggs that day, too, but we never quite got around to it. So today, the day after Easter, we finally colored our eggs.
